Welcome to the Buffalo Academy of Irish Music, where we are dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional Irish music to both Youth and Adults. Started by local fiddle player Charlie Coughlin in 2025, Our goal is to provide students with the opportunity to learn this rich musical heritage in a supportive and traditional setting. We offer a variety of classes and workshops led by experienced instructors who are passionate about sharing knowledge. Join us and immerse yourself in the vibrant musical world of the Irish!
Mission
The mission of the Buffalo Academy of Irish Music is to cultivate a supportive environment where students can immerse themselves in the rich traditions of Irish music. We offer the opportunities to learn the traditional techniques and tricks to playing Irish traditional music. Along with learning how to play tunes, rhythms, and ornamentations, they will also develop essential session etiquette to foster a strong connection to our musical heritage. Our emphasis on ensembles promotes collaboration and creativity, allowing students to experience the collective joy of music-making. We are committed to inspiring a lifelong appreciation for Irish music within our community.

At the Buffalo Academy of Irish Music, our vision is to cultivate a vibrant community that celebrates traditional Irish music. We aspire to host masterclasses and intimate music camps featuring esteemed musicians from around Ireland and the US. We also want to spread the word that Buffalo is a renowned hotspot within the larger diaspora of traditional Irish music and musicians. By fostering a love this rich musical heritage in our students, we aim to inspire future generations and connect diverse audiences across the US. Through education, performance, and cultural exchange, we are dedicated to keeping the spirit of Irish music alive and thriving in our city.
