Growing as a musician takes guts, generosity, and community

What to expect

  • This group is to teach young players how to play together as a solid group in traditional Irish music.

  • Joining and performing is free to students between grades 5-12 who play violin, flute, whistle, viola, cello, bass, concertina, button accordion, uilleann pipes, harp, tenor banjo, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, and other instruments (see list on sign up sheet)

  • We meet once a month on Sundays

  • Location: Buffalo Irish Center

  • Time: 10am-11am

  • All music being covered and performed is given ahead of time via email and is written in standard notation

  • Melodies, chords, rhythms, and sometimes harmonies will be given to students in standard notation, but will be expected to be memorized for public performances. These melodies will be kept simple making them easy to memorize and leaving room for embellishments and improvisation as students get comfortable with them.

  • Students are encouraged to take group or private lessons through the Buffalo Academy of Irish Music

  • Public performances may range from appearances in Farmers Markets, Fairs, Festivals, and appropriate museums.

  • The Ensemble is run by BAIM founder Charles Coughlin.
